I went to a baseball game in Fullerton and ended up sitting by the alumni association. Alden was there and I could hear people talking about how he'd never make the effort to just come and acknowledge them. I don't know if that was always true but a smart person would make the effort on both fronts. If Veatch is going to be Alden 2.0 I'd expect him to be about as liked as Alden was after his tenure. Which is to say nobody missed him.
