The really really stupid and the very very gullible and the people who hate this country think that just making a deal, any deal makes it seem like they're accomplishing something.

Remember when Reagan left Reykjavík and the Russians sitting there with their thumbs up their butts? Reagan was excoriated for walking away from a deal. If it's a bad deal, you walk away. But the mentality in politics is a deal shows that you are accomplishing something. In most cases with Republicans in Congress for example, it means you're capitulating.

Not sure about this, but wasn't Hitler given the Sudetenland because he said he wouldn't go any farther?

If we're just nicer to them, if we treat them with dignity that all human beings deserve, they will like us, and won't murder us anymore.
