I remember Joe Posnanski writing an article that Norm had made the job attractive enough that Mizzou didn’t need to take a chance on an unproven head coach who only had been an assistant. Self was the hire but I suppose he would’ve landed Mizzou in the NCAA outhouse. He evaluated wrong in hindsight as did his boosters. As I recall, Sundvold advocated for Self but the sentiment was to go away from Norm’s people and toward a new day of supersized NCAA tourney success that Norm struggled with and Duke flourished in. That and creating an appeal to all the StL inner city recruits that didn’t like Norm because he didn’t kiss the right rings. I’m still waiting on a StL recruit to impact Mizzou in a big way.
Anderson was his best hire but that apparently was just a temp phase from the clown show.
