warfare that political class has divided citizens into to gain the power of government over more and more aspects of life down to literally the individual citizen means E Pluribus Unum is deader than Julius Caesar.
Both parties now excel at fear mongering, imploring people to vote for them to protect them from the bad guys who vote differently.
And the boogeyman of "government shutdown" gets people in a lather, showing how much they've been trained to hold government up as some idol that cannot be trifled with.
Individual liberty as a guiding star is nearly dead. That was the foundation of the American Experiment.
