College football is the single most popular tv attraction for the roughly 18 to 40 single male demographic group. It has more discretionary income to spend than any other demographic group in the economy.
Fox Sports and Disney ESPN are locked in a battle to be the top broadcaster of college football. Fox is aligned with the expanded Big Ten and ESPN with the expanded SEC.
The recent changes in the Tiger program are caused by Mizzou’s in particular and the SEC’s in general efforts to take advantage of the Fox ESPN business competition and not by any “SEC Culture”. The prinary motive of virtually every school/program in both the Big Ten and the SEC is income maximization.
