I did not want Odom to be hired. I said it was a bad idea to hire the guy from within that the players champion for. It almost never works out. I did give him some credit with some of his staff moves because they showed more....call it creativity...than many of Pinkel's hires. Heupel was a good hire.
After that, what we saw was a repeated parade of lack of preparation and inconsistent play. Momentum was the only way they could generate any success. Time off was a killer.
I 100% do not believe that Barry Odom has the IQ necessary to run a major college program.
That being said, he generally does do a good job of relating to players and getting them to rally around him. If the players' motivation for that is in the right place, they can have some success. Barry's recruiting was not good, but it was not horrible either. He did find some guys. In his current environment, he can probably get them together to win some games. Despite the record, the computers still rank UNLV very low and their SoS is near the bottom of FBS.
Only 3 of their conference mates have a winning record and only 2 have a good record. Their last 2 games may offer some interesting insight.
