It takes *way more depth* to compete in football, and (adequate) depth is much harder to acquire. It normally takes several recruiting cycles to build up, and you have to contend with the portal now to protect your roster from being raided.
Football is also *way more competitive* than basketball, especially in the SEC. And "NIL" makes it harder for a school like Mizzou to recruit and retain enough depth to be competitive (dozens of SEC-caliber players, not just 2 or 3 like in basketball).
