Missouri is going to have to learn how to win by controlling time of possession. We have had an effective quick strike offense the past two games. This explains why we have many less plays than Memphis, but more yards, and more importantly, more points. But this style of play has drawbacks:
1. Defense is typically on the field a long time. We have good personnel and this may be a benefit to us against some teams, but against LSU, UGA, Tenn, Kentucky and Florida, this will wear us out and make us susceptible to an effective run game.
2. We strike fast, but not often enough. Against an opposing team that maxes out around 20-28 points, we have demonstrated that we can put up more points. But against a high-powered offense that averages 35-42 points...can our offense really outgun that type of team?
For these reasons, Mizzou needs to learn how to control the ball and clock. For example, if we're up 14-10 against LSU and have the ball with 5 minutes left in the half, we need to learn how to put together a drive that doesn't give LSU the ball back before halftime.
That means NO MORE STUPID PENALTIES AT THE LINE, consistent run blocking, creative ways to keep the ball on the ground: WR runs, QB runs, short passes with low risk of incompletions.
