Yeah, I wasn't sure about the hire when announced, but it certainly appears to be a home run for them. I've listen to a few of his press conferences and he's solid. He's calm, thought out responses, respectful seems like Gene Taylor nailed this one (and I don't think he even really had a second candidate). I know I sound like a broken record but this Drink contract really bugs me for this reason. With the move to the SEC, we should be able to go hire a guy like Kleiman away from K-state. Look at the facts, both Kleiman and Drink make approx $6M/year (Drink a bit more). Kleiman has a $6M buyout if he terminates his contract. Mizzou has an athletic budget that's $40M more than KSU. We have the means to pay the $6M termination and then turn around and pay Kleiman ($8-9M)/year. Enough to want to make him move. With that, all his coaches gets nice bumps as well. The problem, Reed not negotiating a better buyout of Drinks contract. Mizzou owing $19M to Drink if we fire him at the end of this year makes this cost prohibitive. Again, I'm glad we gave Drink an extension, but not changing the buyout terms for Mizzou was just simply irresponsible. It really puts us in a bind if things don't work out this year. That's why this season, IMO, is one of the most critical for the program we've had since hiring GP.
