I guess the ADs might want the money, but:

-you do want your team to have a chance to win the conference; Vandy has virtually no chance; as a fan, who wants that? Who wants to go see your team get beat time and time after time; often getting humiliated

-you want to be able to see your team on T.V., and now you can with streaming; not a huge advantage to any league, even many of the lower level leagues

-you want to be able to travel to some road games in a realistic fashion - not USC to Michigan

-finally, many have interst in other sports; those other sports and the student athletes are rather screwed when the conferences require long distance travel to play
