Regular bluetooth can connect to 3 devices

but only 2 simultaneously. Example. I have a pair of Bose QC 45s, I can pair them to my iPhone, Macbook, and iPad, but I can only have them actively connected to 2 at a time. I have to use the app to disconnect the iPad if I want to use my iPhone. It's a manual step. With the airpods, they just switch between all three seamlessly.

I still use the Bose, but the airpods are pretty nice.
