might have more to do with RB production than QB production?
QB Stats for MU in SEC
Passing yards = #8......average would be about 15 more yards per game
Passing TD = #9(14).....average was 18
Passing INT = #6(7).....average was 7
Rush yards = #6
Rush TD = #5
Average SEC QB play adds about 200 yards passing on the season, 4 TD's, 1 less INT, and worse QB rushing stats. It's not that much.
RB stats for MU in SEC
Yards = #14 & #28
YPC = #25 & #26
TD = Tied for #8 & #23
Just a little food for thought. We know our passing game was not good enough, but our running game was (compared to the rest of the SEC) even worse.
Making these pretty basic assumptions:
QB play is Average...remember it's not that much
OL improves slightly
RB (due party to OL) improve slightly
Defense is what we think it might be
SDU - win
MTSU - win
ksu - win
Memphis - win
Vandy - win
LSU - loss
Kentucky - should win but lose a roadie
SCar - win
UGA - loss
Tenn - tossup at home
Florida - win
Ark - win
8 wins should not be very hard. 9 is legitimately possible IF the noted assumptions play out.
While any reasonable fan thinks there are a few things that could/should have gone better so far, I still think there are several things to like about Drink. But if he can't improve on 6-6 this year, I probably won't argue with anybody about firing him. But, as always, HOW things play out certainly matters nearly as much as the final result.
I still think that firing Drink is a move MU would regret 5 years from now.
