Opposite of failure.
We taught our children what they needed to do to be successful in all aspects of life. We taught them to do it for themselves with our guidance. They got a valuable lesson: learning to do things right for yourself is the way to success, not having it handed to you from someone else's efforts. Doing it for yourself creates self-reliance and excellence and not dependence. They'll also value it more. I got enough of the other attitude when I coached youth sports. Some parents were WAY too involved for their child's own good and wanted to do everything for them.
I suspect that this is your oldest. You haven't seen the risks of bad parenting yet. Teach your kid how to fill up the venue. Don't do it for him.
