I had an uncle that was in WWII, not at Iwo Jima. He altered his birth certificate and joined the Army at 15. Became an Alamo Scout (forerunners of the green berets), was a team leader in the scouts. Retired from the Army as a Major General (2 star). He graduated OCS at 18 as a 2nd LT. Was the youngest OCS graduate of WWII. I don't remember a lot about him, He passed when I was fairly young and he lived in Missouri, so I only saw him a handful of times. He was always very nice and down to earth. You'd never know he was such a badass. They don't make them like that anymore. That generation in general.
