That isn't the problem here. We are not a program with a history of being good. We were a good football under the GP & Devine years, but for the last 60 some odd years that has been it except for some short term success like Warren Powers years.
Look at OU, Bama, ND, Mich. This are programs that have had losing years fitted in like we have had the winning ones fitted in.
History helps to recover. When you don't have it, schools keep firing until they have a stretch of good which does start, in most cases for 4-6 years. Then they move on and that program regresses.
The point is, firing every 3-6 years means you will continue to do that on and on.
