Her ex (my step father-in-law) has turned into a saint. We didn't get along at first, but came to realize it was the mother-in-law that was the problem. We still see him.

Anyway, he has offered to have a guy he knows that does auctions to walk through and gather anything he thinks has value. Then come the dumpsters/cleaners. Sell the house as is after that, and hope there's something left after her debts are settled.
