My only take on this is Missouri had the #1 player in the state that left for WA. Mac Morgan was starting for Arizona St in the WS and is from south MO. Jordy Bahl is from right up the road in NE and very well may be the national POY for next three years if she can stay healthy, Kliethermes from MO at Oregon, Tatum Clopton top level pitcher from Lawrence, KS went to OSU and pitched some as a freshman and there are two kids from MO on the TX team in the championship, both from around the KC area where some of our talent is coming from. I think there is plenty enough talent in the Midwest to compete at any level, you just need to keep those home like Coach LA wants. The list is pretty abundant either way. If someone had time on their hands you could look at that % as a product of actual performance/success and would be really interesting stat.
The obvious piece of this is CA also is the largest population state by close to 10mm so not surprising that % is high, there are just more girls to choose from.
