yourself". That's what that post meant. Are you for no divisions? Is that what 1-7 means? I personally don't bother with most posts on Tigerboard. If you expect me to know some old 1-7 post of yours...
Here are some impromptu reasons why I think a 1-7 is dumb.
(1) It lacks continuity. Example, Alabama could have a hard schedule in year1, Auburn & Georgia could have an easy one. Year2: LSU & Florida could have easy 7 game schedule and Alabama could have a tough one even though Auburn's and Georgia's is brutal. So each year two non-Alabama teams go to the SEC championship game even though Alabama could have the best team in the country every single year.
And what about two teams like Arkansas and Texas etc. going to the SEC championship because they had an easy schedule of Vanderbilt, S Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mizzou, Ole Miss, MissSt? Do you think Alabama & Georgia etc. would have a problem with that? Is that fair?
(2) A 1-7 like you stated is "mixed up". If you need charts and diagrams to make it out --- then you've lost the plot and fan interest...KISS. A 6-2 is simple: west of the Mississippi River are the West division teams. East of Mississippi River are the East division teams. Ole Miss & Mississippt St, though, are in the West. They are the farthest west teams and are rivals. They're "perfect" for the West division anyhow. Why should they complain? They're tiny state is the state that is most double-dipping the SEC anyhow.
(3) Coaches may not go for that furthermore, too many opponents to prepare. And consider the distant travel, are fans really going to travel around much. When the novelty of playing today's "cross-rivals" then what?
(4) Furthermore for example: Do you expect Texas to not play Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Arkansas each year? How does breaking that up help the conference? C'mon...What about all the other multiple SEC rivalries?
(5) The reason current models are in place is because they've worked. They're actually liked. It just needs an adjustment. That's the kind of real change from the current format that I expect anyhow.
...
A 6-2 model also preserves the old guard SEC East teams and now the "new midwest" SEC west. Everybody should love that. Let's face it - if the money was the same we would not be in the SEC or Big10. Now we are sort of in the midwest...in the 6-2 model that is.
I've already spent more time on this than wanted...typos-schmipos.
Anyhow have a nice day.
