I thought the 2011-12 season, culminating in a Big 12 championship, was one of the most enjoyable fan experiences across any sport. Then we got kicked in the nuts with the loss to Norfolk State.
Since that point, which is nearly a decade now, MU basketball has a been a long stream of almost incomprehensible comical ineptness. Our 2012-13 team was good, but vastly underachieved and was notable for late game meltdowns. Then the program just collapsed, as the rest of the SEC completely passed us by. Our 2017-18 team was enjoyable to watch but also notable for blowing games with complete meltdowns, and we had a good non-con in 2020-21 before completely squandering the rest of the season. Other than that being an MU men's basketball fan has been a chore and a burden and there is almost nothing enjoyable about it and certainly nothing that can serve as source of pride.
But I've watched this whole time. I no longer believe MU will ever return to a normal state. Like never. But I'm still watching, and expect to continue to do so even if we stay on this current path and there is no hope for rebuilding the program. I watched during the Kim era when I didn't even believe we were trying. I do agree with your observation, but I'll keep watching.
