I think instead of players saying "I'm reopening my recruiting", they should just say they are re-opening negotiations. Once a guy like Burden has shown he has big time play ability on the field, he'll reopen negotiations for the top programs to make their pitch. Every player is going to do that going forward. In the NFL you have a contract that locks you into a team, in college sports you have zero commitment. In the middle of seasons players can declare they are entering the portal, quit for the season and re-start negotiations.
