The biggest misconception about eduction is that tenure keeps teachers from being fired. All tenure does is provide due process for experienced teachers. If a principal believes that a 25 year veteran teacher is not doing their job they can easily fire them. There is a paper trail they must create and interventions they must attempt first. A bad veteran teacher can be fired in under a year if the school follows their procedures. I'm not just talking for criminal behavior, simply not doing the job they were hired to do.
Most business have similar procedures in place. The only thing that make teachers different is that it is very difficult to replace teachers midyear so outside of exceptional situations it is always done at the end of a year.
