Biggest disappointment
Missouri — although again, there are a few other more high-profile candidates for this dishonor.
Florida was expected to take a step back but not this many steps. The defense is putrid, the quarterback situation chaotic, and Dan Mullen has people opining on his job security (which seems pretty premature.)
LSU has gone from “well, maybe Ed Orgeron can turn this around” to “nope, see ya Ed,” so normally they would be the easy pick here. But once Joe Burrow and Joe Brady left there was already plenty of reason to predict the slide. Texas A&M could have gone on this category but then it beat Alabama, and also still has a chance to win the division in a chaos scenario.
Missouri, meanwhile, hasn’t gotten much attention because it’s not one of the marquee programs. But this was a team that was expected to be respectable and was coming off a good start to the Eli Drinkwitz era, but is so far not only winless in SEC play but hasn’t been very competitive, losing by 38 at home to Tennessee. In terms of performance relative to expectations, Missouri’s disappointment has been the most jarring.
