I know most of the board wants to talk about CRT and ways to "re-instate" a criminal thug to the Presidency but lets think a bigger game here.
Climate change by far and away is the biggest problem and threat facing America and the world.
but is it even possible to stop or reverse it?
Technologically ? yes
economically - is obviously the sticking point so lets look at that
the world puts 40 billion tons into the atmosphere each year.
current estimates to capture carbon from the atmosphere
directly is about 232 dollars per ton (which is down
3x from just what it was just a few years ago- so like solar and wind energy (which ragliar thought would NEVER be commercially viable-but are already cheaper than coal and oil) it will only absolutely get cheaper)
so at current dollars it would cost a little over 9 trillion a year to recapture all the co2 that we emit.
lets say that over the next 5 years we half that- so maybe 4.5 trillion bucks a year.
So how does that stack up.
The US is 28 trillion dollars in debt (so obviously spending is not really the issue)
The world budget of all countries government budgets equal 35 trillion dollars.
The global economy is 85 trillion dollars.
So a modest reduction in DACT would put it at about 5% of the current global economy,
And the overall costs would decrease each year if we
also scaled up our renewable clean energies and used
better agricultural techniques and planted a few more trees, etc etc etc etc.
So without positing any particular policy discussion
( I know how many of you hate policy and prefer emotional tantrums) but I merely present some figures and scale of the problem for you all to process .
but solutions are possible and not at all that great a
(relative) cost.
