The SEC was absolutely down last year. It had fewer tournament teams than projected, several teams that fell well short of preseason hype/expectations, and the flagship program had its worst season in decades.

The Big East is not a deep league top to bottom. It has Villanova and Xavier, but the majority would get clobbered in a P5 conference most years... and Xavier is mediocre now without Chris Mack at the helm.

And then you have DePaul, St Johns, Seton Hall, Providence... it's a good high-major league, but not a power conference.
