no sign of asphyxiation and no sign of trauma to the neck.

you can put your knee on someone's neck for HOURS and not kill them. You could also put all your weight behind it and kill them, but again there would LIKELY be evidence of trauma and almost certainly evidence of asphyxiation caused by stangulation
