The conference was bad, and KY fielded an all-century bad team this season (by Kentucky standards). That being said, the media predicted the whole conference incorrectly, so I'd stop short of saying Mizzou shocked anyone (in hindsight) with a 7 place finish.
Only is a covid infected year of no fans, cancellations, re-scheduling...would Mizzou's record have earned them a NCAA bid. It's amazing how many factors & outright acts of God occured to allow this team to accomplish the minimum standard for which so many (with contracts) depended on.
