Bought a car - 1962 Plymouth Valiant - when I was briefly stationed in Pearl Harbor. When I left the island in a couple months I cancelled my insurance and got $20 bucks back.
Subsequently my military ID was stolen while I was surfing in San Diego. Apparently somebody in Alabama showed a cop my ID after an accident. During the time of the accident I was in Vietnam. The insurance company - I had already cancelled my insurance - kept sending me letters saying they were going to raise my rates because of the accident and later they threatened to cancel my insurance and then were cancelling my insurance. I finally wrote them a profanity laced letter telling the to **** off I was in Vietnam and already cancelled my insurance. Six months later I got another letter from them. $100 check. They didn't owe me anything but they sent me $100.
The profanity laced letter got me $100.
