i don't think the football / basketball comparison is apt

seems like in football stability and building a program is important, but with basketball everything is much more short-term.

most players coming up aren't on any one team for more than 1 or 2 years. hell most probably play on 2 or 3 different teams at a time anyway. HS team, AAU team, maybe another tournament team every now and then. they don't really care who was on the team before them or who will be there when they leave, they just care who is there right now, who is coaching right now, and whether or not they're going to get playing time right now.

with that mindset, and how easy it is to transfer, whether a coach is going to be there 2 or 3 years from now is almost completely irrelevant.
