look at comparable programs over the last 30 years (1989-2019) to see where we are:
Arizona - 28/30
Texas - 26/30
Cincinnati - 23/30
Oklahoma - 22/30
Oklahoma State - 19/30
Illinois - 18/30
Arkansas 18/30
Missouri - 17/30
Iowa State - 16/30
Marquette - 16/30
Notre Dame - 14/30
Iowa - 14/30
Tennessee - 14/30
kansas state - 13/30
LSU - 12/30
I think we could all agree we belong in the upper half of that list, probably not in the lower half. It's not that the lower half are bad programs, but we should perform better than them.
Given even a moderately respectable run during the Kim Anderson years, we'd easily be there. Not only was KA the only coach to not go to a NCAA tourney, he's the only one to not go to multiple.
Snyder - 4/7
Anderson - 3/5
Haith - 2/3
KA - 0/3
Martin - 2/3 (*no tourney in 2020 and I'm assuming we're in this year)
So outside of the abysmal KA years, MU has gone to the tournament in 11 of a possible 18 years. That's a 61% appearance rate over what is unquestionably the most turbulent span in modern program history. If KA had just kept the same level as everyone else post-Norm, we'd be at a 62% appearance rate.
Given even a minor level of program stability, there's absolutely no reason Mizzou shouldn't be in the NCAA Tournament 3 out of every 4 years.
