even think it of importance to have anyone bother to record the date of Jesus' birth.

Besides, what does the Bible say about birth?

A good name is better than precious ointment,
and the day of death, than the day of birth.

Jesus did give Christians commandments what to do in remembrance of him on his day of death. He did nothing of the sort for the day of his birth.
