Even though people were home, they found many other activities to spend their time doing. A lot of people found plenty of other hobbies that took over sports watching. Bike sales, Boats, Kayaks, etc have had record sales. People are spending more time outside than ever before. People realized they didn't need sports as much as they thought and are doing other things. Die hards are still fans but many have become less "die hard". It really has absolutely nothing to do with politics and sports. Politics have been in sports and athletes for a long, long time.
