he does have the quote around McCain for calling him a horrible soldier for being captured..or something like that...so he had talked bad about veterans....

I would have treated it like a non-story...and would agree with you like saying something like..I was there that week, and that did not seem to match his character during that week from the events I witnessed.

I did not read the article to see how specific the claims were...where, when, who else was around...given that it was anonymous, it probably did not have much detail other than the words that were claimed to have been spoken.
