Are 401k's becoming a thing of the past?

The new ownership group just came out with their plan and if you contribute 4% of your salary to it they will match anywhere from 0.5% to 2.5% depending on how well the company does financially and they will do it at the end of the fiscal year. That doesn't seem like a very good 401k plan, i swear the old ownership group was matching up to 6%.
