could have anticipated. I was at the LSU-Florida game that LSU executed 5 fourth downs to beat Florida and Tim Tebow. A very loud raucous game. A hell of a game. I was at both games (@ Kentucky 2OT loss and Arkansas 3 OT loss) and left each thinking our chance to win a National Championship was gone.
Both losses stung. That hard gut punched feeling. I felt the thrill of victory and twice that season the agony of defeat.
What 2007 did was show everyone who thought they knew football that the football gods have a twisted sense of humor and enjoyed inflicting agony on everyone. While it is true that LSU won the national championship that year because some one had to win, it did so by not having lost a game in regulation. I doubt that will ever happen again in my life time.
To show you how wacky that season was, LSU was matched up against tOhio State in the championship game. In the pregame the Ohio State cheer leaders were supposed to run out each with a flag spelling O-H-I-O S-T-A-T-E.

They came out instead with O-H-O-I S-T-A-T-E.
I knew then they were going to lose and they did in typical fashion. The football gods teased Ohio State like they were winning it all and then pulled the rug out from under them. Ohio State led by 10 but lost by 14 points.
