'07-08 was the greatest college football season of all time, certainly the most entertaining. In my opinion, no other season comes close. And we all remember who was #1 at the end of the regular-season that year.
We actually would have been "national champs" that year under the rules of the former poll era, when only regular-season games were considered; and conversely, we would have won the 1960 national title under today's rules that *do* consider the post-season. Seriously, flip-flop the rules of 2007 and 1960 and we'd have TWO national titles.
As I've said before, it's great to be a part of history, unfortunately we always seem to be on the wrong side of it:
• '07-08 (including the OB snub)
• "Fifth Down"
• "The Kick"
• Tyus Edney
• Norfolk State
• MPJ, TVZ, DGB (the misfortunes of MU's #1 ranked recruits)
• The 1960 national title controversy (MU's only loss was the final regular-season game, to a *disqualified* KU team)
• The 2015 team protest fiasco (thanks to the Michael Brown incident in nearby STL spilling over into MU)
• The BigTen "junior member" fiasco (most insiders say we had an invite but wanted full membership)
• The Matt Painter "done deal" fiasco (which led to Haith, which led to Kim, which led to program death)
• The Quin Snyder "crackaz be shakin" fiasco (which involved the UM system president; Quin is now an NBA coach)
• Turning down Bill Snyder, Bill Self, John Calipari, Ben Howland, etc. etc.
• #3 all-time in NCAAT appearances without a Final Four
• #1 all-time in CFB conference-title-game appearances without a conference title
• The Yolanda Kumar fiasco (a minor infraction that ultimately led to getting hammered by the NCAA)
• The various debacles that got us featured on ESPN's "Outside the Lines" multiple times
The list goes on and on... but I'd rather have a storied tradition than a boring one or none at all.
