world that they could be a stable reliable partner during this time of lunacy running America.
They've pretty much blown it. In their immediate neighborhood, they've ratcheted up the bullying in Hong Kong and nearby territories, are throwing their naval weight around in and around the South China Sea, are puffing their chest to neighbors like Japan.
They continue to engage in mob like loan programs in exchange for influence and materials in places like the Middle East and the African continent.
China gets a lot of credit for being so advanced in terms of technology and infrastructure in places like Beijing and Shanghai but the truth is the countryside is still backwards, dirt poor and not improving nearly fast enough.
I think China's also starting to realize that they don't have the charismatic culture that America does. Chinese pop culture is not all that much of a hit and may not ever be. It's a country that wants to have American style capitalism with a withering dictatorship and censorship. That's not a recipe for long term success.
The thought originally was that capitalism would eventually pry the country free from communism, but it's only tightened under Xi. Now he's going to be President for life and I don't think that's necessarily a good thing.
