discuss racial relations really only want to discuss their own racial grievances.
These are all valid racial questions;
-why do blacks with similar resumes get fewer callbacks?
-why do blacks with similar records get heavier sentences?
-why is it harder for blacks to get credit?
But so are these;
-why is single parent families the norm in black communities?
-why do blacks commit a disproportionate amount of crime?
-why is the graduation rate so much lower for blacks?
There will never be any movement on racial issues if we are only allowed to address certain types of questions. Everything must be on the board for there to be solutions. The questions passed to the BYU panel may have been insensitive and designed to provoke a response but if we are ever going to have progress those questions must also be freely discussed because there is merit to them as well.
