Candidly, the Trump campaign got a healthy dose of reality. There may have been attempts to keep the crowd down on-line and on the grounds. But, I fully believe there was an arrogance about these rallies that is dangerous when you are months from a re-election. History shows you must earn the vote every day, particularly during the dog days of the campaign. And that is where we are headed.
Biden is surging by perception now. That means people are judging the race based on their perceptions of Biden. That works for a while, but eventually the race will be run on the trail and by the two at the top of the ticket. No former office or running mate has ever turned an election. This is Trump vs Biden and people will decide based on what they see from both of them in the coming months.
Team Trump needs to wake up and realize crowds and excitement don't just happen. They need to make it happen and the same old rally speech and lines won't necessarily work. The Biden campaign will have to face the notion that for a while you can coast on not being the other person, but eventually you have to be out there convincing voters you are the person. Biden has never been able to do that on the presidential level. And he is now far from his peak. But he will not win this from his basement. Can he hit the trail and generate excitement? People are laughing at the crowd at Trump's rally. Since he announced for office there are not many times Biden has even achieved what Trump did Saturday.
