what do you mean locked up?

I have been in NASCAR garages many times.

they have security to get in the garage...with various levels of passes (pretty much where you can be at certain times).

Once you are in, you more or less have free reign on where you go. They don't put extra security in any certain places unless the garage is active (practice, qualifying, etc.) In theory you can go into the garage next to the car...of course you would be stupid to do it, since it is likely a team member may kick your ass if you are in there.

Of course, now is much different as the public is not allowed to go in there, and the cars are spread out much more and the equipment is there for much less time (just a day or two versus 4 days usually.
