so population is already factored in the equation. So Sweden does have a death rate per million people that is 7X what Norway has (which is in the range the OP suggested). The math on GDP is pretty back of envelope and inaccurate. The biggest loss to Norway's GDP is loss of oil revenue which is something they cannot control. Sweden's GDP has suffered also because of the worldwide recession. They do not live in a vacuum.
