and "scientific consensus" as though history shows their track record to be unassailable.

Is science important? You bet. To ignore it is foolish. But to blindly believe since they say it and produce models that project it, and to take drastic actions without challenging the assumptions (such as using history as a guide), is utter foolishness. And it demonstrates a blind faith many find so distasteful in others on other subjects.
