I think if something occurs with some sort of regularity, it could be considered a normal occurrence. Now, what I just said is totally loaded too and might be a misuse of "normal" lol.
But, if x number of individuals experience something (and we have a scientific understanding of that experience) I would argue it could be considered a normal occurrance. It may not be the majority experience (which is what I believe you mean by 'normal'), but a valid result of circumstances from the combination of genetics, epigenetics, and environment.
Does any of that make sense? I feel like I may be rambling lol.
