the 1953 coup? The Shah came to power in 1941 and APPOINTED Mosaddegh as prime minister of Iran in 1951.
In 1953, Mosaddegh and his supporters rigged a national referendum that dissolved Parliament, stripped the Shah of power and installed himself as a de facto dictator.
His connection with the Soviet backed Tudeh Party that had attempted to assassinate the Shah years earlier, coupled with his calls to nationalize BP, sealed the doom of his tenure as dictator of Iran.
