At the end of halves, typically, they went to their so-called "Death Lineup;" they ended up with Curry, Thompson, Iguodala, and Barnes, with Draymond Green switched to center. The result was a defense that could switch on screens, rotate quickly to shooters or to the rim, and apply pressure. This led to turnovers, fast breaks often ending in open 3's or layups, and opposing big men being drawn out of the lane or run off the floor. That lineup outscored opponents by 47 points per 100 possessions.
It makes sense to me to imitate the model in college. Finding athletic 6'5" to 6'8" guys is a lot easier than convincing elite 6'10" guys not to go to KY. You need a PG that can really handle, and 2 or 3 outstanding three point shooters. Defensively, those players need to be able to defend aggressively and switch without it becoming a mismatch.
If the center can move his feet well on defense, he can be bigger. On offense, the center often screens on the perimeter, which forces the opposing center out of the lane to guard the screening action. This opens the lane for cutters.
