This event predates Christ's atonement on the cross. What about the necessary atonement in the interim? The claim Christ's atonement on the cross eliminated payment for sin should apply universally, not just in relationship to to death penalty, because Christ paid for every sin. It is a twisted argument which must be rejected.
Atonement must be made for the land, and that, according to God, is the only way it can be made.
"So you shall not pollute the land where you are; for blood defiles the land, and no atonement can be made for the land, for the blood that is shed on it, except by the blood of him who shed it."
"I have given you all things, even as the green herbs. But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood. Surely for your lifeblood
I will demand a reckoning;
from the hand of every beast
I will require it,
and from the hand of man. From the hand of every man’s brother
I will require the life of man.
Whoever sheds man’s blood,
By man his blood SHALL BE shed;
For in the image of God
He made man." - Almighty God - Genesis 9
If only those who are faultless can pass judgment, how do you explain 1 Corinthians 5? The church was in open sin and Paul demanded an explanation for why they had not judged the sin in the church, and scolded them severely, ordering them to judge someone and remove an individual from the church.
"Therefore “put away from yourselves the evil person.”"
You have warped Christ's intention regarding John 8, ignoring the context, and adding your interpretation to what he said.
Christ said to give to Ceasar what is Ceasar's. You now claim we are to withhold what Christ commanded; the responsibility to execute God's commanded punishment for murder.
God’s minister does not bear the sword in vain.
"Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God,
and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.
For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. For he is God’s minister to you for good.
But if you do evil, be afraid;
for he does not bear the sword in vain;
for he is God’s minister,
an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil."
