This is the way schedules are built today. You find good, not great mid-major teams that don't kill your RPI, play some good P5 teams on the road and at home and then play some challenging teams in a non-conference tourney. You don't get rewarded for losing tough P5 games in the non-con any more.
That schedule was built specifically because they knew how good the team was going to be so they built a schedule around the team. The team was ranked #14 going into the season and the schedule reflects that. If Mizzou played that schedule this year, they would be sub-.500 in the non-con and fan support would evaporate for the conference games.
