regarding building engineering. One puts 2 model homes in a sealed box, one with a hip roof, one with a gable. You can then turn on what is basically a leaf blower attached to the box to simulate various wind speeds, ramping up from a mild breeze to tornado-force winds.

The gable-style roof blows off the house at about half the max wind speed of the hip-roofs limit. Gable was a goner at like 70-80mph, Hip lasted to 150+
