isn't going to earn them the respect you're looking for. Most of their time on duty is spent chasing criminals or investigating crimes. They're always the bad guy for trying to put your friends, family, neighbors in jail. To become father-like figures you're talking about has to happen out of uniform when they're just a normal person.
