If you believe you only have one path out of poverty you are going to focus hard on that.

If you are already doing well and have plenty of options, not as much unless it is a passion of yours.

Why are there so few black MLB players? There was an article on this, I think it was USA Today, and it is because the prevailing attitude is it takes too long to make good money. So blacks have more interest in basketball and football as a reason.
