detrimental to a potential career than taking a few years off of football.

We've seen plenty of guys go the MLB minor-league route, not make it, and then go back and play college football in their mid 20s(and make it to the NFL)

I can't really think of any guys that didn't start in the minor leagues until their mid to late 20s and then made it to the majors.
